Economic Development Queensland has approved the plan of a development application for the $3 billion Queen’s Wharf Brisbane Precinct.

The approved development area will cover 27.3 hectares, making it the largest private development in Queensland, equivalent to 20 percent of the Brisbane city centre.

Ben Slack, Urbis’ Regional Director in Brisbane, said: “Urbis is proud to have assisted Destination Brisbane in gaining development approval. This a crucial step in delivering a mixed use entertainment precinct for Brisbane that will transform our new world city. Thanks to Destination Brisbane and all their hard working consultants in reaching this significant milestone.”

The plan will guide the development of this integrated resort which will:

  • include 2000+ residential apartments, 1,000+ premium hotel rooms and a 1,000-seat ballroom
  • celebrate our historic buildings through the adaptive reuse of existing heritage-listed government buildings.
  • include 12 football fields of public space
  • provide 8,000 extra jobs once operational
  • bring 1.39 million additional tourists to Brisbane annually
  • connect to Southbank with a new pedestrian bridge

The plan of development application had been assessed by a range of government organizations and departments including Brisbane City Council, the Department of Transport and Main Roads, South Bank Corporation, the Department of Environment and Heritage protection, the Queensland Heritage Council, the Queensland Urban Design and Places Panel and the Queensland Government Architect.

Urbis is leading the master planning and development approval strategy for Queen’s Wharf, drawing on our planning, urban design, landscape architecture and heritage expertise.
