Urbis is proudly leading the master planning and development approval strategy for Queen’s Wharf, Brisbane’s most exciting urban revitalisation project in generations. Commissioned in 2013 by Echo Entertainment Group, Urbis partnered with the client and an international multi disciplinary bid team to successfully win the rights to develop the coveted nine-hectare site – and is now at the helm of negotiations with the Queensland Government to shape design outcomes and secure a timely planning approval.
The vision for Queen’s Wharf dramatically reshapes a significant part of the State’s capital and seeks to enliven and integrate the public realm. The development will unlock and create new squares and sub-tropical gardens, urban laneways, a vibrant waterfront and a new linkage between the retail heart of the city centre and the historic botanic gardens – an energized ribbon of public spaces that thread the city together.
The new Queen’s Wharf takes extraordinary care to fuse Brisbane’s riverside setting with the surrounding urban fabric. A new bridge to the world famous South Bank parklands and attractive new waterfront spaces built around Brisbane’s earliest heritage buildings are highlights that enable the river to become a stage set for festivals and cultural events. Urbis estimates the site will hold as many as 190,000 people for major events. The development will not only cement Queensland’s capital as a premium tourism destination but also support 3,000 jobs during construction and more than 8,000 ongoing jobs. This makes it a win for the city and the State.
Experiencing the precinct will be like embarking on a journey. The walk will involve a collection of experiences which will be totally new – and totally about Brisbane.
