The New World City Design Guide: Buildings that Breathe is a multi-dimensional tool prepared to ensure the creation of a subtropical cityscape for Brisbane which is recognised internationally. Urbis, in collaboration with Brisbane City Council and Arkhefield, prepared the guide as an initiative of the City Centre Master Plan 2014.
The non-statutory guide is conceived as a common reference point among architects, planners, developers and the community when discussing the design of buildings in Brisbane’s city centre and urban centres. The design guide provided an overarching vision for new high-density buildings as well as showcasing the highest standards of design and construction through existing build examples presented as case studies.
The ultimate benefit of the guide will be to ensure each individual building in the city is incrementally contributing to best practice outcomes in terms of responding to our climate and establishing a unique identity for Brisbane.
“The Buildings that Breathe design guide provides a tool to ensure new buildings in our city embrace our subtropical climate and take advantage of distinctive attributes of Brisbane’s unique lifestyle.
