Situated in the picturesque Derwent Valley, New Norfolk is the third oldest settlement in Tasmania with a rich history.
The Mills project is one of Tasmania’s largest private developments, helping drive a resurgence for New Norfolk, supporting residents seeking a tree-change with convenient access to Hobart.
The Mills is adding to local community services, residential supply, township amenity, and commercial and tourism diversity.
Urbis has been engaged to coordinate planning strategy and secure planning approvals for the various project components, to ensure that the client can realise their vision. To date, we have successfully gained approvals for a childcare centre, hotel, residential subdivision, and an independent retirement living facility, as well as leading multiple Planning Scheme Amendments.
Additionally, Urbis has been engaged for property economics and strategy expertise for residential land supply and education feasibility assessments.
The Mills will deliver over 700 homes supported by a central mixed-use precinct, anchored by a large central park. In implementing these projects, the team has mitigated risks through comprehensive stakeholder engagement with local Council and state government departments.
“The $500 million residential and community project, called The Mills, will inject $139 million annually into the Tasmanian economy over the next 20 years.
