Urbis assisted both the University of Sydney and Lendlease in the approval of this significant gateway building. With a total area of 8,600sqm over five-levels, the F23 building will accommodate the central administration functions of the University, including the vice-chancellery.
The F23 Administration Building, along with the LEES 1 Building, will frame a significant new civic space at the University’s City Road frontage, linking the Camperdown and Darlington campuses and punctuating the Eastern Avenue vista.
Urbis provided planning advice, prepared the Environmental Impact Statement and lead discussions with key stakeholders in the approval process including Sydney City Council, the Heritage Office, the Government Architect’s Office and the Department of Planning.
Issues relevant in this project involved the site’s relationship with the City Road frontage and its integration with the public realm, its alignment within the vista created by Eastern Avenue, the exhibition of design excellence, and the impact on adjoining heritage-listed fig trees. Urbis prepared detailed documentation of these issues and worked with the consultant team in achieving approval.
“The F23 building reinforces the university’s pursuit of design excellence as part of the campus’ ongoing renewal.
