Urbis was awarded Project Team of the Year for the Telopea renewal master plan at the Greater Sydney Planning Awards held on Thursday 23 February 2017.

The award celebrates the innovative and ‘bold city making’ contributions of a team to ‘great planning’ for Greater Sydney.

Urbis’ multidisciplinary team – comprising experts in design, heritage, planning, policy, economics and research –  developed the masterplan guiding the transition of Telopea. It focuses on a diverse housing provision, revitalised public domain, improved community facilities and maximised accessibility.

The master plan has been very well received by that community which is a testament to the team’s dedication and understanding of the key issues.

Urbis Director Carlos Frias said: “We’re thrilled to be working with NSW Land and Housing Corporation and City of Parramatta on the project. The renewal outcome of Telopea will foster the long-term growth of a vibrant, cohesive and safe neighbourhood that will deliver an increased mix of social and private dwellings.”

The judges praised the project, stating it ‘set a high standard for a collaborative team working within the community, across government and specialist organisations.’ The team were recognised for their sensitivity towards the local community in producing a comprehensive plan that incorporated the key values of the local community.

The judges also noted the Telopea renewal project presents an ‘excellent and unique way of looking at housing mix and one that shows a way forward for future projects.’

Urbis would like to thank and extend congratulations to our partners Mott MacDonald, GTA Consultants, PBD Architects, Eco Logical Australia, Virtual Ideas and Straight Talk on the success of this project.
