Urbis along with a multi-disciplinary team were commissioned to create a vision, to transform The Palms, an underutilised golf course in Kewarra Beach, Cairns. The proposed plan was to support the local community with lifestyle and economic opportunities and something they can ultimately be proud of.

Perfectly positioned at the base of the Macalister Range, the site had great existing natural assets that aided the vision, principles and design development. Urbis colloaborated to undertake  vision workshops, structure planning, master planning, community engagement and liaising with Council through to lodgement. The GIS team also assisted with producing mapping tools for site visits which improved client engagement and a better understanding of site characteristics.

We have received great feedback from our client and Council on the processes we have undertaken so far, particularly how we have engaged and communicated the project with the community. This strengthens the Urbis vision, to re-purpose the land for the benefit of the wider community and create a destination for all to enjoy.

Setting out the vision and principles for the project from the beginning  was vital. Supporting the design and community engagement phases in creating a community framed by nature.
