A strategic analysis of Queensland’s talent ecosystem: mapping the jobs of the future and their associated skills pipeline.

Client Challenge: Trade and Investment Queensland required a thorough understanding of how it could optimise Queensland’s future talent network, across each region, to become highly productive and globally competitive.

What we did: Assessing the current talent profile and skills pipeline of each of Queensland’s regions, Future State evaluated the sectors most likely to drive future economic success by reviewing the barriers and enablers of growth in each region.

Urbis worked alongside the Brisbane Economic Development agency to identify, prioritise and build an implementation framework around 10 potential high-performance precincts. Each precinct was prioritised and assessed on its capacity to meet specialised economic needs and requisite enabling infrastructure.

Our strategic analysis outlined the priority skills needed to enhance and diversify the Queensland economy on a geographical basis. We also identified the sectoral gaps that need to be addressed to ensure a diverse bank of future skills and talent.

Our Impact: Future State determined significant structural gaps between the opportunities that exist for accelerated economic development and the availability of the talent and human capital required to achieve it.

As a result, our research is currently being updated with the most recent census data. Once complete, we will provide the Government with the first talent trend line and the evidence required to build the governance and policy setting needed to accelerate talent creation, regional specialisation and productivity.

Future State worked with the Queensland Government to define the State’s talent landscape and chart a path toward higher productivity talent regions, built on high-potential sector specialisations.
