Situated in the heart of Inner West Sydney, AMP Capital’s Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre is largely a food and service-based centre. AMP identified an opportunity to expand ‘The Metro’ to meet the demands of the growing local community. In true Inner West style, the development sought to ‘upcycle’ an underutilised warehouse adjacent to the site, retaining the warehouse facade to reflect the industrial heritage of the area.
Urbis planning secured a State Significant Development approval and several modification approvals for AMP. Additional uses were also approved at the site through an amendment to the Local Environmental Plan, as well as the consent for public art and additional music and activation to enhance the vibrancy and vitality of the centre.
The development aims to celebrate the food and art culture of Sydney’s Inner West while retaining part of the local industrial heritage. This was delivered within the contemporary shopping centre expansion, which enhances the retail, leisure, dining and fresh food offerings at the site.
Urbis is proud to have assisted AMP on this project, which not only upgrades the size of the centre but also complements and enhances the unique Inner West culture and Marrickville way of living.
