The Leppington Precinct is a key strategic centre for Camden Council and has been subject to significant planning over the past decade. Changes to expected densities are resulting in a higher population than originally forecast, creating challenges for open space access and provision.

To overcome these challenges, Urbis worked closely with Council and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment to assess demand and provision of open space within the precinct. This work centred on a contemporary approach to open space analysis, drawing on the Government Architect of NSW’s performance-based criteria and development standards across Australia.
The analysis identified practical solutions to provision, framed by leading case studies and the outcomes of recent contribution reforms.

The final assessment provided Council with a leading evidence-based guide to the provision of open space across the area, resulting in the successful release of the precinct in July 2021.

Our work centred on a contemporary approach to open space analysis, which enabled the successful release of the Leppington precinct in July 2021.
