Urbis provided a detailed student accommodation demand assessment for the Australian National University (ANU) to assist in the sale of its student accommodation. ANU caters to a high proportion of interstate and international students, who drive demand for its accommodation facilities.
The university was looking for an investor to acquire its existing accommodation and develop additional facilities to meet the long-term needs of students. We used our extensive experience in the sector, having worked with over 30 university campuses in the past five years. ANU used the study to prepare due diligence information for prospective bidders and issued the report to shortlisted bidders. Urbis also met with bidders to answer questions on the report and proposed sale. The process resulted in a successful transaction, with ANU awarding a 30-year financial concession and lease arrangement to a consortium on nine existing ANU residences for $165 million.
In 2018, Urbis updated the report to inform planning for additional student accommodation development.
“Urbis provided a detailed assessment of the existing and future demand for ANU’s student housing and the factors affecting long-term demand.
