Urbis assisted the University of Tasmania (UTAS) in the sale of its student accommodation through a detailed assessment of existing and future demand for its student housing at the Hobart, Launceston and Burnie campuses.

Urbis forecast the student accommodation demand over the next ten years including sensitivity of key demand variables. Urbis also provided advice on accommodation opportunities which considered the needs of a culturally diverse student body, having reflected on best practice student accommodation design.

UTAS used the study to prepare due diligence information for prospective bidders and issued the study report to shortlisted bidders. Urbis also met with bidders to answer questions on the report and proposed sale. The process resulted in a positive partnership between UTAS and the Spark Living Consortium including a 30-year licence arrangement for 10 of the University’s 14 purpose-built accommodation properties.

Urbis updated the report in 2018 to inform planning for additional student accommodation development in Hobart.

Urbis assessed the future demand for the student housing at three campuses.
