Urbis supported Golden Age in gaining development consent for the first Ace Hotel in the southern hemisphere. The project involved the refurbishment of Tyne House, a federation style warehouse building, together with a nine storey vertical addition above.

Golden Age sought Urbis’ town planning expertise to guide the delivery of the project, which involved a variation to the maximum building height, an ‘early-works’ development consent to assist program constraints, and the negotiation of deferred Heritage Floor Space payments via a Planning Agreement with Council.

The redevelopment of this site will unlock its rich history, offering the perfect place for the Ace Hotel to enter the Australian market.

Our collaboration with the project team, which included the winners of the competitive design process – Bates Smart, ensures the project provides a heritage sensitive redevelopment, featuring a 264-room hotel, with rooftop bar and ground floor restaurant, together with public art at the site’s rear address to Foy Lane.
