We are beyond excited to see Brisbane City Council reach this major milestone with the release of the Draft Victoria Park / Barrambin Master Plan. Urbis have been privileged to be the lead consultant at the helm of the Brisbane Green Consortium who have worked alongside Brisbane City Council’s Victoria Park Project Team to develop the Draft Master Plan since early 2021. The team proudly led the Project Consultant Management, Master Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Economics, Heritage, and Indigenous Engagement

The Draft Master Plan reflects many months of collaboration and hard work from our broader Urbis team in partnership with Brisbane City Council to create a roadmap for the transformation of 64-hectares of inner-city greenspace. The draft plan represents the design evolution of the earlier Victoria Park Vision, incorporating detailed technical studies and communication feedback.

This move, along with the restoration, protection and enhancement of greenspaces, sensitively and sustainably create a new setting for the community to enjoy our unique outdoor lifestyle.

Urbis Group Director Natalie Hoitz says “We are excited to hear what the community and residents think about the Draft Master Plan.  From a design perspective, we are really thrilled to see the re-establishing waterways, wetlands and waterholes, as a central feature.”

Core to the design remains the focus on delivering a natural retreat that celebrates the site’s unique ecology, heritage and connection to Country.

The Draft Master Plan includes a connector bridge, community sports precinct, waterholes and wetlands, brand new visitor centre – plus hectares of lush greenspace for the community to enjoy.

Urbis Directors Glen Power and Matt Franzmann, highlighted the importance of rewilding and restoring the traditional landscape of the site to create healthy and connected ecosystems that maintain biodiversity and clear links to Country and culture.

“The Draft Master Plan seeks to implement a staged strategy of planting canopy trees that will progressively deliver at least 60% coverage in the park. This strategy will see positive impacts in terms of park cooling and thermal regulation of key habitats.”- Glen Power, Director.

The park will become a natural space that celebrates these features through its design, landscape and how it merges this history with art, culture, interpretation, and education.
