The beautiful city of Perth famous for its sunshine and beaches is thriving. The hive of activity at our Urbis office is still a buzz from all the action.

Our chief economist Richard Gibbs and Andrea Kanaris our social planning lead were all visiting from interstate to discuss the outlook for Western Australia alongside local directors, Karen Wright, the Regional Director for Western Australia, David Cresp, Director Property Economics and Research and our most recently appointed engagement lead, Danicia Quinlan.

Danicia Quinlan joins Urbis, bringing a successful and long-standing career working in challenging environments in the commercial sector, the resource sector, creative industries, economic development, place activation and local government. It is Danicia’s diverse range of experience that has provided her the platform to develop an evidence-based strategy. To engage and effectively implement projects requirements, and to drive successful outcomes for both the client and the community.

Danicia’s distinct background has included senior management positions with the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce, Fashion Council WA, Woodside Energy, BHP Billiton and the City of Westminster in the UK, as well as a decade directing a local social impact and engagement niche consultancy.

As Chief Executive Officer of the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce she led the organisation’s Development & Infrastructure, Tourism, Marine & Engineering and Small Business & Retail Committees. Danicia worked on transport corridor advocacy, place activation and utilisation of under-utilised heritage spaces.

Joining Urbis just last week, Danicia dove straight in to the deep as a leading Urbis panelist in a series of conversations with Development WA, JTSI, the City of Perth and ESG commercial sector leaders. She presented her in-depth understanding of changing community demographics, city leader perspectives and the role that engagement plays in driving positive change.

Danicia says  “WA is in such a unique position, we are moving into a new era as a city, and the shift in our demographic profile over the coming few years will change who we are and our identity. I look forward to working with our clients to find better and creative ways to engage, accommodate, integrate, ignite and set this vision for our future developments and communities”.

I’ve had such an amazing introduction to Urbis, our clients and partners this week. Participating in a whirlwind of panel conversations has been a true honour and a privilege as I joined our national Urbis thought leaders on the panel.

The several events that took place covered many topics relevant to WA.

This included:

  1. Western Australia’s economic outlook. How global fluctuations will affect Western Australia, and whether we continue to buck the national trend with strong countercyclical growth in the year ahead.
  2. The emergence of ‘economic stewardship’ and sustainability as macro drivers and what impacts this will have on Australian property and precincts. Covering the challenges and opportunities that will be encountered as our cities and communities transform to embrace the meaningful application of Global ESG principles and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  3. Changing socio-economic and demographic trends shaping property and precincts. Considering the drivers of Australia’s future sustainable growth and shared economic prosperity.

Karen Wright says, “It was an absolute pleasure to present so many meaningful conversations over the last week.  The discussion on climate change and WA’s response to sustainability is front of mind throughout industry and government.

The scale of our infrastructure and renewable energy projects, and the technology that will be developed through those projects will create stronger links between WA and the Indo-Pacific Nations.
