Urbis acknowledges the diversity of our people is the key to our creativity – and to our clients’ success. An inclusive workplace is one where differences – of gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation and physical ability are respected and supported.

WorldPride has landed in Sydney – the city is alive with rainbow colour, festivities and celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community.

In the lead up to the celebration we’re proud to have provided pro-bono planning and heritage services to Qtopia Sydney, ensuring that Australia’s first museum dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ stories and history opened in time for Sydney WorldPride. Read more.

Our Sydney office continues their celebrations as they partner up with Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-op through an exhibition of their art in our Angel Place office. The exhibition will showcase the voice and stories of the First Nations LGBTQIA+ community and celebrate their contributions to creating an inclusive, strong and vibrant society.

Boomalli has helped me find a voice as a queer blak woman and it's inspiring to see our LGBTQIA+ community can come together yearly with such incredible work and stories. It's important that people know we are here and we're not going anywhere!⁣⁣

Boomalli Artist Nioka Lowe-Brennan says “This artwork is dedicated to our Elders. I wanted to acknowledge their strength and resilience which I have depicted in the form of mountains. There is no real beginning or end to the lines within the mountains, only where the canvas stops. This is because of the long journey we have taken to be where we are today as LGBTQIA+ mob.

From the mountains emerges a young queer woman, spear in hand, she is a force to be reckoned with as she holds the power of the hundreds of Elders and ancestors which guide and support her on her journey”.

Over in in our Melbourne office, their ‘welcome back’ party had a colourful twist to the theme this year – in celebration and recognition of WorldPride 2023 and Midsumma events happening across the city. The party was delivered as part of the Melbourne offices rich calendar of events that support Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace.

Senior Consultant Tom Anset says “A simple gesture can often mean much more to those around us than we realise. So thanks for being a part of the celebration and we look forward to the year ahead – the future is bright at Urbis”.

Director Jonathan Bryant adds “I am so excited to celebrate Sydney WorldPride 2023 and invite you all to reflect and party with us. Every year people gather in a city to celebrate the influence LGBTQIA+ people have had around the world”.

I’m very proud to work at a firm like Urbis that genuinely embraces tolerance. It makes me realise that, for many of us, the world has indeed become a kinder, safer place.

“Pride means different things to different people and WorldPride gives us the opportunity to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, and to promote our commitment to awareness, diversity, and inclusion”.

“I’m a Director at Urbis and I’m a gay man, and these are values that allow people like me to bring our whole authentic selves to work”.

Urbis is always honoured to contribute to diversity and inclusion – we hope you all have a glamourous and meaningful Sydney WorldPride and Mardi Gras 2023 celebration!
