Wesley Mission has commissioned Urbis to undertake research into community experiences of financial stress.

The research involved a literature review and an online quantitative survey with 500 households living in New South Wales. Data analysis included a comparison of survey results from 2010 to track change overtime.

It was found that an alarming 44 per cent of households in New South Wales are suffering financial stress and 38 per cent are spending more than they earn. Furthermore, financial hardship and financial anxiety are impacting upon the health, safety and well-being of individuals and their families.

The research outcomes found in Facing Financial Stress informed the development of Wesley Mission’s 2015 Winter Campaign to raise community awareness of financial stress and to demonstrate the value and impact of Wesley Mission’s services for community members in financial stress.
