The rejuvenation of Australia’s first major shopping centre included the retro-fitting of an old car park into a thriving outdoor dining precinct.

The brief was to create a subtropical resort style landscape that complimented the architecture and retail offer. A focus was placed on creating day one visual impact through careful and considered placement of large ex-ground palms, trees and shrubs.

Urbis worked with the Scentre Group creative team to understand the over-arching design principles for the precinct and follow through with a softscape design strategy that enhanced the overall vision.

Urbis worked closely with engineering and construction experts to find opportunities on an existing podium slab which had significant weight challenges. Strategic placement of planters and ex-ground plants allowed the design to achieve the desired day one impact.

The precinct is now a thriving hub of activity with both the client and the customers experiencing the benefits of a lush and subtropical landscape.

Landscape is the future of retail with its ability to create unique lifestyle destinations where people want to spend time.
