We assisted UNSW gain State Significant Development Consent for a new chancellery building, known as B22, on the University’s Kensington Campus.
The project was initiated to consolidate the academic functions of the University into a single building that also catered for the existing undersupply of teaching/learning space on campus.
Our team assisted UNSW undertake a voluntary international design competition, together with a significant program of consultation with GA NSW in arriving at the proposed scheme.
“B22 will deliver an iconic building, meeting the accommodation needs of the University and enhancing its reputation as a leader in tertiary education.
The proposal, designed by Danish architectural practice 3XN, involved a 60m building over a five storey podium, comprising 18,000sqm of teaching and administrative space, together with supporting retail and event/exhibition space.
The building and surrounding public realm response sought to revitalise the campus, linking the newly constructed Light Rail stop on High Street with the ceremonial Library Lawn below.
Urbis is proud to have achieved development consent for the project in June 2020.
