For many years, light rail has been presented as the future of transport in Sydney, and in 2012, the NSW Government announced plans for a new line.
Urbis was involved in planning the 12-kilometre Central Business District (CBD) and South East Light Rail line, which should be finished in 2018. The service is due to start running in 2019.
The NSW Department of Transport assigned Urbis a number of key responsibilities, including preparing a summary of planned land-use changes; examining opportunities for transit-oriented developments; identifying key corridors and challenges specific to Sydney’s CBD; analysing land use matters, including density and industry concentration; advising on land use integration; and opportunities for influencing urban outcomes.
Urbis’ extensive experience with major urban infrastructure projects meant we stood out when the NSW Government was looking for reliable partners in the project.
