Set within Royal Randwick Racecourse, the State significant development application (SSDA) for Australian Turf Club and Mostyn Copper Group’s proposed seven-storey mixed use hotel will bring accommodation, function spaces, and a registered club and lounge to the area. This new mixed-use hotel will replace a previously approved hotel with an updated design and service offer to better align with the current market demand.
Urbis guided the client through the State Design Review Panel process and subsequently provided planning, heritage, and engagement services to support the formal lodgement of a SSDA in August 2023. The hotel will support the pre-eminent role of the racecourse as the premier recreational destination in Sydney and will stimulate investment in the growing equine tourism industry.
The positioning of the hotel in the Spectator Precinct offers a dual interface to Alison Road to the north and the racetrack to the south, offering unique elevated views to Centennial Park, sweeping views of the racetrack and the iconic home straight. The visibility along Alison Road will provide a new, highly prominent visual anchor to signify the prominence of the racecourse as a key local landmark.
“The hotel will be a significant addition to the growing Spectator Precinct at the Royal Randwick Racecourse and will provide a unique racing experience.
