Located in one of Sydney’s most salubrious suburbs, Kincoppal-Rose Bay School offers breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour and the CBD, Urbis worked with BVN Architects from DA to construction on the landscape design for the new Year 12 hub and an internal retrofit of an existing gymnasium to become an integrated learning hub for senior students. The external spaces were heavily constrained with heritage views, steep topography and an old pool shell.
The new design transformed the existing decommissioned pool into a multifunctional outdoor space, with an outdoor sunken amphitheatre, a large deck with outdoor furniture and integrated garden beds. Neglected external spaces on upper levels of the school presented opportunity to extend break out spaces to create outdoor learning rooms for senior students. In addition to these spaces, the upper level ‘harbour terrace’ is a new extension to the boarding house dining hall which offers space for outdoor dining and small events with spectacular harbour views.
