With Melbourne and Victoria’s rapidly growing population, there is increasing importance on the current and future availability of health services. Urbis was proud to secure planning approval for the Epworth Freemasons Hospital in East Melbourne to deliver a state-of-the-art cohesive and integrated health facility.
The redevelopment comprises of a purpose-built cancer centre to consolidate Epworth’s services and provide an integrated facility for patients, provide additional surgical services; provide space for innovation and medical training, and provide new and refurbished theatre, accommodation and clinical space. The approval also includes a comprehensive redevelopment of part of the existing hospital to improve overall functionality, patient comfort and provide coordinated health care delivery.
The project was complex, requiring detailed negotiations with Council and a particularly engaged local community to deliver a development which met the technical built form requirements for health services and delivered a high quality architectural design fitting for its historical East Melbourne location.
Urbis successfully led the planning process, delivering a planning permit for the overall development within eight months of lodgement.
