As the key planning advisor and competition manager, we facilitated the design excellence competition on behalf of Iris Capital for Stage 3 and 4, East End. Utilising our experience in design excellence competitions in Newcastle, our team guided Iris Capital through the competition process and assisted in achieving an excellent design outcome.
East End is one of the largest revitalisation projects in Newcastle, with Stage 1 setting a benchmark for how a collective of architects and Council can collaborate to achieve a development that is full of character, vibrant, and sustainable. Stage 3 and 4 will complete the $880 million redevelopment of the East End precinct, following the critically acclaimed Stage 1, which has been embraced by the community.
SJB in collaboration with DBJ and Curious Practice were selected as the winning architects by a three-person Jury, delivering an innovative scheme highlighting the diversity of the site and celebrating the Christ Church Cathedral. This landmark design will bring to life a shared vision between the City of Newcastle and Iris Capital to connect the Harbour to Cathedral Park.
Urbis is thrilled to support Iris in achieving this outcome and administrating the second design excellence competition in Newcastle.
“East End is transforming before our eyes. Stage 3 and stage 4 will deliver the final piece of the city’s revitalised East End, bringing the precinct into the modern era.
