It’s a stellar time across the nation for the Urbis Perth and Brisbane teams, as they celebrated winning a swag of awards at the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) Awards for Planning Excellence, held on Friday 6 November.

Urbis Perth is our smallest office, but this didn’t stop the team from punching well above their weight, winning four awards at the PIA WA ceremony. They took out the Best Planning Ideas – Small or Local Project award with partner Landcorp for White Gum Valley, and followed up with the From Plan to Place award with the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder for the Boulder Town Centre project.

The Urbis Brisbane team picked up The Great Place Award for their work on the Gladstone Coal Exporters Maritime Precinct, East Shores at the PIA QLD Awards ceremony. The project has already won the 2015 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects QLD Award of Excellence for Urban Design.

It was also a night of great personal triumph, with Urbis staff also receiving individual accolades.

Planning Director Karen Wright took home the WA Planner of the Year award. Karen has more than 20 years experience, working across residential, mixed use and industrial projects in the public and private sectors.

Earlier this year, Stewart also picked up the Lighthouse Award at the Property Council of Australia WA’s Future Directions Young Achiever Awards. He is a keen advocate for better planning and is a founding member of urban think tank, Perth Urbanist.
