Urbis was engaged to prepare a Planning Proposal to realise the potential of the Westmead Shopping Village in Sydney’s western suburbs. The new planning controls adopted by Council in 2017 saw an uplift in the potential floor space from 2115 square metres to 11,300 square metres.
Following the changes to the planning controls, Urbis coordinated an architectural design competition on behalf of the developer to select Sissons Architects for the proposed hotel and residential development and subsequently submitted a development application to the City of Parramatta.
The project is an exemplary example of how complimentary uses can be integrated to create a vibrant mixed use development with excellent access to public transport and employment. A supermarket, and other retail tenancies on the upper ground floor, as well as a medical centre and commercial space on level two is also proposed.
Urbis prepared the landscape designs for a significant public domain upgrade along Railway Parade and Ashleigh Lane including a pedestrian crossing, a through site pedestrian link and landscaped communal open spaces on the podium levels for hotel guests and residents.
“WestGrove will support the growing Westmead precinct with a vibrant mix of uses including in demand hotel accommodation and improved food and beverage options.
