The Next Generation (TNG) facility is Australia’s largest ‘energy from waste’ facility, and the first for NSW. Each year, TNG will divert up to 1.3 million tonnes of unsalvageable and uneconomic residue waste from landfill, using it to create enough ‘green’ electricity to power 200,000 homes.
Since 2013, Urbis has been a key consultant on this project, providing statutory planning advice to help the developer obtain state-level approvals. The Urbis team prepared key planning deliverables including the request for Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements and the Environmental Impact Statement.
TNG will be NSW’s first, and Australia’s largest, facility for converting unrecyclable waste to energy — enough to power more than 200,000 homes.
We also maintained ongoing communications with government, community and other key stakeholders; coordinated a large multidisciplinary team of consultants, including international energy and waste specialists; and developed a complaints management strategy to include in the environmental management plan.
