Urbis were engaged by Avenues Early Learning to assist with their expansion of child care centres into Sydney, with their vision of providing highly innovative early learning facilities.
The Manly project was a significant one, with approval sought for just under 200 child care spaces to respond to the pent-up demand for these services in the local area.
Given the scale of the development, there was a very strong community response to the proposal. The applicant was refused by the Sydney East Planning Panel, but subsequently an appeal was lodged with the NSW Land and Environment Court.
Urbis provided town planning evidence as part of this court process, and was successful in reaching agreement through court process with relatively limited changes to the proposal.
The child care centre will be one of the largest, purpose built early learning centres in Sydney and the premier centre in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
“The project will set a new benchmark for child care design, and will assist with providing important social infrastructure for Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
