Our female leader sponsorship program, SOAR, has concluded for 2024. This marks another successful year of fostering growth and development among Urbis and Cistri’s emerging female talent.

The wrap-up event, held in Sydney, was met with enthusiastic feedback from all protégés, highlighting the program’s impact on their professional journeys. The event focused on several key themes, including:

  • advancing in leadership while remaining authentic,
  • overcoming limiting beliefs, and
  • recognising that success is not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ concept.

These themes were explored through a series of engaging sessions and workshops designed to inspire and empower the participants.

The SOAR program focuses on investing in making strides to grow and develop our female talent. It is designed to empower our women to progress in their careers by giving them a safe environment to explore their goals and reach their potential.

Ashleigh Cantori, Senior Diversity & Inclusion Consultant

Urbis CEO Ben Pollack hosted an intimate session in which he shared insights from his own leadership journey. Ben discussed the qualities he seeks in Directors and offered his perspective on how the business is supporting part-time employees with career development and creating a family friendly workplace.

Following this, a panel discussion hosted by Katie Tatoulis featured Dianne Knott, Sara Pratt, and Poppy Wise, who shared their expertise on building a strong client portfolio. Their insights and experiences offered practical advice and strategies for all participants to apply within their own careers.

The protégés also had the unique opportunity to present their personal pitches to numerous leaders within the business. Each participant spoke for three minutes about their passions, unique contributions to Urbis, and future ambitions. This exercise not only showcased their individual strengths but also allowed them to receive constructive feedback from seasoned professionals.

Leadership can come in many forms – it’s all about mindset and being true to your values, mission, vision, and passion.

The event concluded with a workshop delivered by Christina Gerakiteys, CEO of UtopiaX. In this session, limiting beliefs were exposed, fixed mindsets were challenged, and the meaning of success was redefined. This workshop left a lasting impression on participants, equipping them with the tools to overcome personal and professional barriers.

Melissa Luki, Associate Director, shared some reflections on her time with the SOAR program, highlighting the important impact it’s had on her professional journey. “From the learnings shared generously by our experienced leaders and Sponsors, to the mutual support and encouragement shared by fellow Protégés, everything I got from SOAR reminds me that it is okay for the growth journey towards leadership to have ups and downs. Knowing that is assuring and it keeps me going; and it makes me want to share the encouragement with the other incredible talents across this organisation so they can keep going and growing too.”

Overall, the SOAR 2024 program was a resounding success, with our wrap-up event celebrating the achievements of all involved and reinforcing Urbis’ commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders. As the program concludes, the participants are now better equipped to contribute to the future of our cities and communities with renewed confidence and clarity.
