Shaping a landmark riverfront precinct
We have been working with Destination Brisbane Consortium on the Queen’s Wharf Integrated Resort Brisbane project since 2014, providing multidisciplinary expertise across planning, heritage, urban design and landscape architecture.
This $3.6 billion integrated resort development has transformed more than 12 hectares of Brisbane’s CBD into a vibrant tourism, leisure and entertainment precinct. Combining striking contemporary architecture with the adaptive reuse of significant heritage buildings, the project is a major catalyst for the city’s growth, attracting visitors, investment and enhancing Brisbane’s connection to the river.

A decade of collaboration
As Destination Brisbane Consortium’s lead consultant, Urbis guided the overall master planning, planning and design process at each key phase of the project from the initial bid through to the opening day 10 years later.
From the outset, we led the planning approvals process, ensuring the development met complex regulatory requirements and facilitating successful government engagement while delivering on the vision for a world‑class destination.
The design team shaped all facets of the high‑quality and unifying public realm outcomes, creating spaces that are engaging, accessible and well connected for visitors and locals alike.
Protecting and revitalising the precinct’s historic assets was crucial to the development’s success and sense of place. Our heritage specialists achieved this by preparing detailed impact assessments and strategies to help integrate them seamlessly into the new urban fabric.
The ultimate development will include four 5- and 6-star hotels, architecturally designed residential buildings, activation of restored heritage buildings and high quality public open space re-linking the city to the waterfront of the Brisbane River.
World-class outcomes
Through this sustained involvement, we helped secure development approval for one of Queensland’s largest urban renewal projects, guided the sensitive restoration of heritage buildings, and contributed to a world-class development that integrates public spaces and tourism infrastructure connections.
A major milestone in the project’s delivery was reached with the opening of The Star Brisbane in late 2024, one of the precinct’s flagship hotels, which is now welcoming guests and activating the riverfront with new dining, entertainment and leisure experiences. This marked the beginning of staged openings that will progressively bring the precinct to life.
