Business Illawarra engaged Urbis to develop a visionary master plan and arena configuration for the redevelopment of the Win Entertainment Centre, Win Stadium and Lang Park (Illawarra Sports and Entertainment Precinct).
Urbis’ work is being used for advocacy to the NSW and Australian Governments to provide a much needed revitalisation of the precinct, which has not had major investment in 20 years to attract top entertainment and sporting events.
The master planning identified opportunities and constraints to redevelop the Illawarra Sports and Entertainment Precinct as Wollongong’s preeminent foreshore site. Key accomplishments include stakeholder buy-in by Wollongong City Council, Venues NSW and NSW Department of Planning and Environment, and a site specific development opportunity.
Our team identified the best options for improving the precinct, how they could be funded, and the size and types of tourist and entertainment facilities required, with three integrated scenarios and a market-led development case study.
We supported Business Illawarra with statutory planning advice, transport, heritage, economic and property advisory services for this $400 million redevelopment of Wollongong’s most important foreshore site, including a market-led opportunity and engaging Populous to scope the arena and convention-exhibition space.
“Urbis delivered an outstanding, visionary master plan for the ISEP that will support revitalising the Wollongong foreshore, and attracting world class entertainment and sports events to Illawarra. – Adam Zarth, CEO of Business Illawarra.
