We have worked with Development WA since 2012 to masterplan, design, and deliver the Montario Quarter Development. The redevelopment showcases a range of multi-generational housing, affordable living, and local amenity, whilst retaining distinctive trees to create a neighbourhood with a feeling of security and privacy, with clear connections to the train station and surrounds.
The design has placed an emphasis on alternate modes of transport and pedestrian and cycle links across the site have been considered to maximise connectivity. Building location has been carefully considered to ensure that these movements are prioritised and connect internally and externally. Our design team delivered documents that envisage an urban village within a rich landscape setting of significant canopy trees. The development has delivered an established neighbourhood aesthetic with a feeling of security and privacy, for the benefit of the local community.
Understanding the importance of identity in creating a sense of belonging and community, the project team undertook an extensive audit of the property to identify elements that would be suitable for re-use within the public realm. The repurposed elements form part of a comprehensive interpretation and public art strategy for the public realm. The relics and stories described through artwork and interpretation create an identifiable sense of place from the outset and enrich the landscape experience.
