The redevelopment of the historic David Jones menswear building is a transformational project that will shape the form and function of the Sydney CBD luxury retail precinct.
Urbis has provided heritage, strategic and statutory planning services to the site co-owners Scentre Group and Cbus Property since 2016. This has included preparation and management of the Concept DA, Architectural Design Competition and Detailed DA phases, as well as preparation of the Conservation Management Plan, culminating in the granting of development consent by the Central Sydney Planning Committee in April 2020.
A key theme of the project was ensuring the meaningful and successful adaptive reuse of one of Sydney’s well-known heritage buildings, while creating a world class retail and commercial address to anchor the Mid-town luxury retail precinct. The opportunity to deliver 101 premier residential apartments within the distinguished tower above was achieved whilst protecting solar access to Hyde Park and the environmental amenity of the surrounding locality.
