Context
Urbis has assisted AMP Capital to secure planning approval for AMP Capital’s $1 billion Quay Quarter Sydney revitalisation project.
The Quay Quarter project will bring new life to an iconic part of Sydney – a sophisticated urban landscape of laneways, cafes, bars and boutique shops. It will also be a place of commerce and innovation, home to some of our smartest companies.
Quay Quarter Tower is a 50-story, 206-meter commercial skyscraper celebrated for its innovative “upcycled” design, which reused about two-thirds of the original 1970s AMP Centre’s core to dramatically reduce embodied carbon. Designed by 3XN and completed in 2022, its adaptive-reuse approach, sustainability focus, and striking sculptural form have earned it numerous international awards and positioned it as a model for low-carbon, future-ready urban redevelopment.
Approach
Urbis guided AMP Capital through the City of Sydney’s intricate planning laws, advising on a number of complex planning and heritage issues. Through ongoing consultation with the local community and the City, Urbis played an important role to secure approval for AMP Capital to renew its headquarters in Bridge Street, along with three mixed-use developments in Loftus and Bridge streets. Urbis also managed the design competition for AMP’s headquarters, which Danish Group 3XN won.
The Quay Quarter project has provided new life to an iconic part of Sydney.
