Urbis was pleased to support BrightNight Australia in securing planning approval for a 300MW solar energy facility and 360MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) located near Mortlake in south-western Victoria.

Our Planning team managed the project, working closely with the community, project team, and with all relevant authorities. The Design team prepared a detailed site plan for the facility, considering a range of environmental constraints on the site. Importantly, impacts native vegetation across the site were effectively minimised through the design of the facility. A comprehensive Visual Impact Assessment was also prepared to clearly demonstrate the proposal’s integration with the landscape.

Our Transport Advisory team supported the application with transport advice to ensure impacts to the local road network during construction and operation of the facility would be acceptable.

Approval was granted by the Department of Transport and Planning under the Development Facilitation Program, with the project one of the first approved under this pathway. We look forward to continuing to work with BrightNight and the rest of the project team in delivering this significant contribution to the energy transition.
