Richard is an experienced urban planner, specialised in policy and strategic advice related to emerging trends affecting city shaping. With a strong understanding of statutory and strategic planning, smart cities, sustainability and innovation projects, he revels in applying this knowledge to tackle complex planning issues at a micro and macro scale.
He excels in leading planning advice to State and local governments during his time working for the NSW Government and in the private sector, including on precinct planning in Western Sydney, place-based policy advice to the NSW Government, and providing advice on reform to the NSW Planning system to connect strategies and policies into tangible outcomes.
Through this work, Richard’s experience includes coordinating workshops and presenting to Senior Executives at all tiers of Government. Richard has also developed unique skills in understanding new technology trends in the built environment and decision making, including new dashboards for monitoring cities, and advising on sustainability requirements including for the Green Building Council of Australia. Richard is also an active member of industry advocacy groups including the Planning Institute of Australia, Smart Cities Council Future of Place Taskforce.
Through these initiatives, Richard remains at the forefront of complex emerging city challenges and sharing his experience collaboratively. He is also one of our core leaders of the Urbis Sustainability Working Group (2021), guiding the implementation of Urbis’ net zero corporate policy and principles.
