On Thursday 12 June the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Queensland hosted their awards gala to recognise and promote outstanding work in the field. These awards celebrate the positive impact of landscape architecture on the built and natural environment in Queensland.
Our Urbis team was honoured, winning a record three Awards of Excellence and two Landscape Architecture Awards. Additionally, our colleague Cassandra Friday was honoured with the Future Leader Award for her outstanding contributions.
The awards gala was unprecedented for Urbis, recognised in the following categories:
- Award of Excellence – Urban Design – Future South Bank Master Plan
- Award of Excellence – Infrastructure – Northshore Brisbane Street Renewal Program
- Award of Excellence – Parks & Open Space – Archerfield Wetlands District Park
- Landscape Architecture Award – Play Spaces – Archerfield Wetlands District Park
- Landscape Architecture Award – Parks & Open Space – Future South Bank Master Plan

The Archerfield Wetlands District Park project designed by Urbis for the Brisbane Sustainability Agency, was a standout, winning the prestigious Award of Excellence for Parks and Open Space, as well as a Landscape Architecture Award for Play Spaces. The jury highly praised the project for “seamlessly integrating nature-based play, ecological restoration and deep Traditional Owner engagement.”
