With the vision to be Australia’s premier health and innovation district by 2036, the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) engaged Urbis to harmonise strategic planning objectives, economic demands and drivers, and place-specific opportunities to establish a cohesive Place Strategy for Westmead.
The Urbis design and planning teams worked in close collaboration with DPIE to build upon previous studies and earlier stakeholder and community engagement to identify a place and people centric vision for Westmead that is underpinned by twelve key strategic directions and over forty specific actions for implementation.
The end result for DPIE is a clear strategic plan to attract investment in health, research and innovation as well as transport and heritage to further Westmead as the health jobs accelerator for Sydney. The plan will elevate Westmead’s desirability as a place to live, work and visit, with strong cultural, community and commercial offerings to draw people in.
“The vision for Westmead to be Australia’s premier health and innovation district – an ecosystem for new discoveries, economic growth and global recognition.
