Five Category wins for Urbis at the 2026 Queensland Australian Landscape Architecture Awards (ALIA)

The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Queensland Awards celebrate excellence in landscape architecture, recognising projects that create lasting value for communities, strengthen connections to Country and enhance the environments in which people live, work and gather. The 2026 awards highlighted the positive impact that thoughtful landscape architecture and urban design can have on shaping more connected, inclusive and resilient places.
On Wednesday 16 September 2026, Urbis was recognised across five award categories, reflecting the breadth of our work and the strength of the collaborations that brought these places to life.
The projects recognised at the 2026 Queensland AILA Awards:

Winner - Play Spaces Award - Jalunbu Park
Winner - Regional Achievement Award - Jalunbu Park
Winner of the Civic Landscape Award, Queen's Wharf Brisbane's Ridgeline Public Realm transforms a once inaccessible part of the city into a connected network of streets, lanes, plazas, terraces and elevated public spaces. Delivered as part of the broader Queen's Wharf Brisbane master plan, the project reconnects Brisbane's historic ridgeline with the river, creating a public realm that enhances pedestrian movement, celebrates the city's heritage and offers a distinctly Brisbane experience.
The Low Line was honoured with the Urban Design Award, for its bold vision to reimagine the space beneath South Brisbane's rail viaduct into one of the city's most vibrant public destinations. Developed in partnership with Aria Property Group, the project reimagines underutilised infrastructure as a thriving pedestrian and cycling corridor, connecting cultural, dining and riverside destinations through a network of subtropical green spaces, public art, retail and community hubs. Designed for a growing city, the vision strengthens connectivity, enhances flood resilience and celebrates South Brisbane's unique character.
Recognised with the Urban Design Award, the Cavill Avenue Pedestrianisation reimagines the heart of Surfers Paradise as a more connected and people-focused destination. Developed in partnership with the City of Gold Coast and Fourfold Studio, the project used tactical activation and real-world testing to demonstrate the benefits of reducing vehicle dominance and creating more space for people. The result is a compelling vision for a greener, safer and more vibrant civic landscape extending from the Nerang River to the beach.
Jalunbu Park was recognised in two categories, receiving both the Play Spaces Award and the Regional Achievement Award. Delivered in partnership with Douglas Shire Council, the project transforms an underutilised site in Port Douglas into a vibrant community destination inspired by the meeting of the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. Guided by the concept "Where the Tides Kiss the Canopy", the park creates an immersive landscape of play that draws on the character of Four Mile Beach, Mossman Gorge and the tropical rainforest, demonstrating how landscape architecture can celebrate place, foster inclusive play and strengthen community connections in regional Australia.

Together, they showcase the power of landscape architecture and urban design to create places that reflect local character, foster community connection and deliver lasting impact.
