Urbis coordinated a fast-track Planning Scheme Amendment to facilitate the construction of a battery energy storage system at the Ballarat Terminal Station.
The project, which includes provision of a 30MW battery, provides power supply and back-up services to the electricity network. The project is being delivered under the State Government’s Energy Storage Initiative, which supports projects that improve the reliability of Victoria’s electrical system.
Urbis worked closely with the City of Ballarat and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning to facilitate the fast-tracked amendment process, to ensure that battery system could be installed prior to the summer peak.
“Urbis, upon appointment, changed the planning strategy for the site in order to ensure project viability for the peak summer period.
