Rachel Smithers is a landscape planning expert with a passion for protecting natural resources and creating places for the community to enjoy.

She has nearly 20 years’ experience working on multidisciplinary projects locally and internationally, including waterways and transport infrastructure, open space and recreation studies, coastal master plans and residential projects. She studied horticulture and landscape architecture at the University of Melbourne.

At Urbis, Rachel prepares visual and landscape impact assessments that balance the social, economic and environmental needs associated with major residential, infrastructure and commercial projects.

Her career highlights include delivering 146 healthy waterway projects across Melbourne over three years, with a combined value of $7 million; preparing a landscape and visual impact assessment for a new community of 5,000 residents on the outskirts of Cambridge, in the UK; and overseeing stage three of the Frankston Waterfront renewal project in Victoria.

I try to foster integrated project solutions and environmental stewardship, to ensure the delivery of resilient landscapes.
