Urbis is thrilled to announce the Director appointment of well-respected transport planner and traffic engineer, Graham McCabe.

Boasting a track record that includes projects such as City of Sydney’s bicycle plan and Western Sydney Airport ground transport plan, Graham will build and lead Urbis’ new transport advisory offer.

Throughout his extensive 20-year career, Graham has developed innovative transport planning and traffic engineering projects in Australia and overseas. He brings a deep understanding in the interrelationship between land-use, activity and transport. His speciality is creating cost effective, holistic transport solutions that enable improved connectivity at a human and city scale.

Graham’s career accomplishments include many high-profile projects. Namely, leading the Western Sydney Airport ground transport planning, configuration and assessment; developing a new integrated transport system for Davao – the Philippines third largest city, providing transport design advice and assessment for Sydney and Newcastle light rail; and Active Travel and Bicycle Plans for City of Sydney, Strathfield and Orange.

Graham’s appointment, and the addition of transport advisory to Urbis’ city shaping toolkit, allows us to connect the missing linkage between how communities are formed, their look and feel and how people travel around.

Graham is a thought leader on a range of transport areas, including the integration of new transport technologies (such as Automated Vehicles) to enhance communities and improve connections.

His mission is to identify why people travel, where and how – and respond with transport solutions that foster improved connectivity.

He said, “We need to think more seriously about why people travel and address that locally where we can, through connecting people to each other in their communities, cities and between regions.”

Graham’s expertise will bolster Urbis’ multi-disciplinary offering; helping clients navigate the fragmented world of transport advisers as adjunct to planning advice. The integration of transport advisory services with land use planning, development, economics and design, will enable greater sustainable city shaping solutions.

John Wynne, National Director Planning, said, “Transport, and mobility, is a critical component of all cities. It plays a fundamental role in shaping the physical, social, and economic landscape of cities and regions globally.”

“Graham’s appointment, and the addition of transport advisory to Urbis’ city shaping toolkit, allows us to connect the missing linkage between how communities are formed, their look and feel and how people travel around.”

Graham added, “Transport is a key influence on the spatial structure, density and land use characteristics of cities. By joining Urbis, myself and the wider team will soon be able to effectively advise clients and governments on how to support the growth of our cities through better transport systems, enabling people to live and work within 30 minutes of services, recreation and health care.”
