Urbis provided planning and urban design services from the inception of the project back in 2011. The team comprised Ray Haeren, Kris Nolan, Sally Birkhead, Stijn Le Large and Shannon O’Loughlin.
With the support of Landscape, they worked hard to capture the local character into the development framework for the site.
Stijn Le Large, who worked as an urban designer on the project, said: “The site and the surrounding community demanded a design that responded to the eclectic nature of the White Gum Valley Area. The final design accommodated a great variety of housing typologies and retains existing topography, trees and community facilities to ensure this new development feels embedded within the local community from day one.”
The Australian Urban Design Awards is convened by the Planning Institute of Australia. Its patrons are Malcolm Turnbull MP, Prime Minister of Australia and Lucy Turnbull AO, former Lord Mayor of Sydney and Chief Commissioner of the Greater Sydney Commission.
In a message congratulating the finalists, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said: “These projects and designs will enhance our cities’ built environments for the people they must serve, and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.”
